A colour camera is especially attractive for beginners or for occasional observing. You can enjoy the results directly, even after a short time.

A colour camera is equipped with a so-called Bayer matrix, which allows only certain colour information to pass through each pixel. Monochrome cameras are missing this pre-set matrix. They are therefore more sensitive, and display more grey tones and resolution. Special filters can be used to extract further details, for example of planetary atmosphere.

To create a colour image with a monochrome camera, four images are taken through colour filters (luminance, red, green, blue, in short: LRGB), and combined in the computer. The use of a filter wheel is particularly convenient here.
